The Goodness of God

Sometimes you feel Spirit tugging at your heart and leading you in ways that don’t make a whole bunch of sense in the moment. This past Sunday I had this experience! At our February Here Now Worship Service (that build bridges between the housed and unhoused communities) we were fortunate to have my dear friend Marcia and her partner John offer music – as they often do. I leave this in her capable hands! However, this past week I felt so strongly that I had to offer the song The Goodness of God, and Marcia didn’t have this music available to her…. So, I picked up my guitar and sang it.

During the reflection one of the gathered shared that she didn’t want to come to this service. She said she’d been holding onto a lot of anger lately and the only thing that was “keeping her right” was singing the music of CeCe Winans. She said that when she “heard me sing that song, CeCe’s song, she knew God was moving in her life and she was where she was supposed to be, and the anger was lifted from her.” Wow! What a witness! I can tell you that I did not know that this music was performed by anyone in particular, it’s just music I had in my collection and it was calling out to me to be shared in our service. This is Spirit at work, this is that holy moment where it can’t possibly be a coincidence, that it can’t possibly be for some gain that this music was played or this witness was shared. This is Spirit, offering a balm and offering release to someone who deserves to feel peace, and held in God’s loving palm.

God is Good and I’m so grateful that we were able to create a safe space for music to be shared, for anger to be released, for people to gather and feel God’s comfort and love.
